Tougher topic to choose but done with the greater enthusiasm. It requires a real courage to take up the topic to write in the blog irrespective of the result since these types of topics are not prevalent in the blog world.Hats-Off for the attempt.
The following are the few findings of mine on some of the info given in the blog.
1.kafirs in islam are not polytheistic. They are treated as atheists which means who do not believe in allah.Hence,in this context, i am unsure of quoting this would fit.Why i say am unsure is,in case of shaivites and vaishnavites, shaivites believe that Lord Siva is supreme and they have no non-believing of Lord Vishnu and the vice-versa is also true. So, i feel, quoting Kafirs here is out of context, since atheism has a different meaning altogether.
2)Want to add some more explanation on tatvamasi, if you can provide space.
Tat-Wam-Asi(You are that) is the term from Chandogya Upanishad. In chandogya upanishad, when the concept of brahman is talked about, the saint aruni says to Shvetaketu that Brahman is the common reality which is universal and atman is the essential divinity within you which is same as Brahman. You need not go out anywhere to find out the brahmam. It is withinyou. Thats why the term Tat-Wam-Asi(You are that). Identifying this is the final objective of Upanishadic teaching. This is the crux of the term Tat-Wam-asi.
As per my understanding,Brahman has no form and we cannot give any form to it.
So again, brahman cannot be confided to god which has a form,it is beyond that. As Russell says, we need a concept of god because we fear to face the reality. In other words,we need him for the sake of consolation of our heart.I dont quote this here from an atheistic perspective.I meant to say,Brahmam is above all the gods and doesnt contain any form. Tat-wam-asi(You are that) says Brahman and Atman are same.

It is very nice to see that, an example of an eccentric vaishnavite is taken from tamil literature's one of the greatest books of all time.

Thanks for your kind comments.
You are correct. yes, there is no scope for polytheism.
in fact they say that all others are non-believers. which means, they do not accept anybody else other than allah as god. don't you think this is extreme form of the "my god greatest" attitude what we are talking about?

this is the message what i wanted to convey when i mentioned about "kafirs" and "pagans". don't you think the numerous crusade wars were waged only because of this attitude?

as far as tat-tvam-asi is concerned, you have given a beautiful explantion. Thanks for the same. "you are that" the meaning what this is conveying is also not conveyed by "you and that are not different"?

Also, I agree with you saying "brahman" has no form and we cannot give any form to it.
When you set to describe the undescribable, how do you do it?

let me explain.

you show a small child a big mountain. he comes back and sets out to describe how the mountain is to his friends who have never seen a mountain before. he will tell that the mountain is very big and proceed to outstretch both his hands and further tell them that the mountain is even bigger than his outstretched hands. here what has happened is mountain is not described exactly. An attempt is made to describe the mountain, which is not known to the children before, in terms of frame of reference which they can relate to or know.

Similarly our people have also tried to describe the undescribable. The people who have seen it all know that it is undescribable. But how do you make others understand that? hence they have to choose a point of reference which people can relate to easily and then describe the same. right?

People can understand past, present and future. Hence they have told brahman is past, present and future also. They didn't stop here. Then they proceeded to stay, not only is brahman all the three in terms of time, he also transcends all the three. this is just one dimension.

This is just a honest attempt to put things in perspective.

Why i said we discuss over chat is the discussion on this kind of topic would never end.Discussing over comments is not the right way to go about.

mm.. you have quoted from ganapathi atharvasirsham without giving credit to the source. was it unintentional?

btw, an attempt to explain silence by words (irrespective of the no. of words) will NEVER meet the purpose.bcoz words and silence are dipoles.

keep offering prasadams.. wanting more..

One of the thing I always admire is moving into core concepts which makes essence of our time - not just spending time-pass info as like all normal blogs taking effort and time in discussing the skirt length and so on ...
very weight given in light way
the light weight factor is great

Here, am asking you to follow up with another post - put forward my idea - came a little longer than expected - hope you won't mind
